10th European Academy for Choir Conductors

The Academy is biannual professional masterclass open to experienced choir conductors who will practice with a highlevel pilot choir. The masterclass is opened to a maximum of 20 active conductors. At the end of the week, on Saturday, there will be a final concert conducted by the best participants who distinguished themselves during the course. 

The Academy is organized in partnership with ECA European Choral Association - Europa Cantat and in collaboration with Arcom (Associazione Regionale Cori Marche), Municipality of Fano and Coro Polifonico Malatestiano.

The Academy

The European Academy is open to experienced choir conductors. You can register as an active participant or as listener. A maximum number of 20 active directors is admitted who will work for the first three days of the Academy. From the fourth day, 10 advanced students, selected by the teacher, will improve in preparation of the final concert. The other 10 conductors will continue their participation and will take part in the lessons as auditors. The active participants will have at their disposal an highlevel pilot choir for the entire duration of the Academy. At the end of the teaching activity, on the evening of Saturday, August 31th, a concert is scheduled by the best students of the masterclass. The working language during the Academy is English. The masterclass is included in the prestigious context of the Incontro Internazionale Polifonico Città di Fano, now in its 48th edition, which during the week offers an interesting concert program with toplevel choruses.

Virginia Bono (Argentina) is a choir conductor and music pedagogue graduated inSanta Fe (Argentina) and in Frankfurt. She founded and currently conductsthe Estudio Coral Meridies. She also conducts the Youth Choir AsomArte ofthe Ministry of Education, the Coro Juvenil Femenino and the Coro InfantilJilgueritos at the Instituto Coral in the city of Santa Fe.She studied with world-renowned conductors as A. Russo, N. Andrenacci,C. Lopez Puccio, E. Ericson, H. Rilling, W. Schäfer, W. Pfaff, F. Bernius, S.Halsey and M. Guinand. She has participated in national and internationalcompetitions receiving several prizes and awards as conductor and alsowith the choirs she has conducted. In 2017 Estudio Coral Meridies has beenselected to participate at the 11th World Symposium on Choral Music inBarcelona as the only invited choir from Latin America.She usually participates as an invited conductor in courses, masterclassesand workshops for choral conductors and singers in many countries(Argentina, Cile, Uruguay, Austria, Francia, Germania, Italia, Portogallo andUngheria) and in very important events as the festivals Europa Cantat andEuropa Cantat Junior.She is often asked to participate as jury member in choral competitions (in2018 at the World Choir Games in South Africa) and as lecturer on choralmusic in international festivals (in 2019 at the 23rd edition of Choralies inVaison-la-Romaine, France, and at the International Singing Week Flandersin Ghent, Belgium).

Music programme

100 years of Latin American choral music is the theme chosen for the10th edition of the European Academy for choir conductors. Through the chosen compositions, which cover the time frame of the last 100 years, it will be possible to go into the timbric details and the sound peculiarities of the choral pieces coming from Argentina, Brazil,Colombia, Mexico and Venezuela.A fascinating repertoire to be discovered that is rarely included in the concert programmes of the old continent. A real exploration journey in the Latin American musical culture: from sacred motets to madrigals, from chamber songs to pages for the spatialized choir of the emerging comporsers of the 21st century.In details, this is the music programme:

The course will develop different aspects related to the rehearsal’s techniques, the performance, the interpretation, the sound research, providing useful advices for a correct use of the voice, the intonation and the vocal matters.

Info and application

Conductors or listeners willing to participate to the Academy can fill in the application form not later than 31st May 2019 (available online on www.feniarco.it), attaching the curriculum vitae with details about education and conducting experiences, a link to a video showing one of their conducting performance and the ID document.In addition in order to complete the application, each participant has to pay the total amount of the participation fee by international bank transfer to Feniarco

Membership
Direct member: if you or your choir are a direct member of the European Choral Association -Europa Cantat (ECA-EC).
Indirect member: if you or your choir are a member of a choral organisation in your countrywhich is a member of the European Choral Association - Europa Cantat (ECA-EC) in goodstanding.

If the active conductors’ applications will be more than 20, the selection will be based on the resumes, and the results will be announced by 20th June 2019. The participation fee will be returned to the non selected applicants.

Feniarco made an agreement for accommodation and meals, offering: full board in double or triple room in 3 stars hotels (from dinner on Sunday 25th August to breakfast on Sunday 1st September) at the price of 50 € per day and person.

Single room (limited availability): + 30 € per day and person.
Almost every city in Italy has introduced the “tourist tax”: the participation fee does not include this tax that must be paid directly to the hotel hosting you. If you would like to reserve your accommodation through the Academy’s organisation, you will also have to pay a depositof 50% of the amount due. The balance of the remaining payment must be paid by 1st August 2019.

Cancellation policy: in case of cancellation before August 1st, the deposit will not be returned; incase of cancellation after August 1st, the fee will not be refunded.
